Abiswell (/aberwell/ [Translation Unavailable]) is a subtropical Town located in the Bāwkyoīä Provence of the Kingdom of Hobben.

The name Abiswell is derived from the Sylvin language, as Abiswell was founded by Ahr Ward, who was culturaly Sylvin.

Climate

Abiswell has a yearly average temperature of 22°C (71°F), with its average temperature during the summer being a warm 30°C (86°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a cool 14°C (57°F). Abiswell receives an average of 268 cm/y (105 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of rain during the summer. Abiswell covers an area of nearly 4 km2 (1 mi2), and an average elevation of 3652 m (11981 ft) above sea level.

Overview

Abiswell was founded durring the late 19th century in late winter of the year 1853, by Ahr Ward. The establishment of Abiswell was somewhat plagued by a lack of willing colonists, leading to Ahr Ward electing to pay people to resettle in Abiswell.

Abiswell was built using the conventions of Sylvin durring the late 19th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Abiswell is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature plaster covered brickwork used to form structures with an emphasis on symmetry, proportion, geometry and the regularity of parts. Orderly arrangements of columns, pilasters and lintels, as well as the use of semicircular arches, hemispherical domes, niches and aediculae can be found everywhere such that only size of building and yard can be used to measure the general prosparity of a given building's owners due to a general wealthy feeling the style gives off.

Abiswell is buildings are arranged arrounded a highly ordered system of broad cobblestone streets which form triangular paterns, allowing the incides of the octagons to be common grounds for the buildings on the edges, be it for parkland, yardspace, plazas, or markets. The town rests behind the absurdity that is a thick, timber braced, wall made of clay bricks. While visualy impressive and certainly an astetic, Abiswell's wall provides no actual defence against siege equipment due to the choice of its cosntruction materials. Even nonexperts can tell the town is trying to impress rather than defend with its walls, towers, and gatehouses. Though admittedly, they do look nice... To primitive tribals who have never seen fortifications before. Abiswell's political statment focused walls has sufferd soem light damage, reducing its function a little in some spots, but could almsot certainly preform as expected... Though some of the worse spots could lead to the loss of defenders lives if attackers identified the weaknesses ahead of time.

Right off the bat Abiswell hits you in the face with its success. Everyone, even the peasants, are dressed in well made clothing. Every tool and implement you can see is finely made, and people will boast to you as obvious strangers of the wonders which can be found in their markets. More interestingly is a total lack of beggars, and plenty of new buildings are going up even as you speak. Somehow this town has come into quite a lot of wealth, and recently from the looks of things. It’s easy to see where their wealth comes from the more you look arround. Every aspect of the town has been developed with care and great thought. The people themselves act deliberately and with care in even the simplest of daily actions.

Cultural Notes

Abiswell's town hall was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used is characterized by their massive, monolithic and 'blocky' appearance with a rigid geometric style. It was best known for its rough, unfinished surfaces, unusual shapes, heavy-looking materials, straight lines, and small windows. Modular elements were often used to form masses representing specific functional zones, grouped into a unified whole.

Abiswell has been cursed with some blight that makes life difficult, albeit not impossible. An offended sorcerer's vengeful Working, an outraged god's wrath, a local distortion of the Legacy, or a simple history of bad feng shui in the area may have brought the curse about. History

In time immemorial, reportedly some time during the late 2nd century, Abiswell was attacked by soldiers from another nation, waging a greater campaign. The details of the conflict are hazy at best due to many conflicting accounts. What is known is Abiswell lost 237 people, 271 livestock, and 57 buildings. The conflict ended after roughly 54, when members of Abiswell's militia enacted an operation to construct defenses in a particular fortification. The operation was complicated by a natural disaster interrupted the operation, shattering unit cohesion. The conflict ended with the defense of the fortification against a siege, which ended in a crushing defeat for Abiswell's forces. The war is remembered in legend by Abiswell's bards, historians, and legend keepers.

History
